But I achieved little. Six years ago, I had to give up the profession I adore, as a special needs teacher, and barely made ends meet with a monthly disability insurance cheque. My family had to take over caring for me, themselves, and for the household. Although somehow we learned to manage, I lost my independence and the quality of life that most of us take for granted.
